Back in the swing of things

We are back in school mode and getting settled into a routine. (These pictures are a little all over the place, but they catch us up on blogging up til now.) The first day of school was tear-free for the kids. Everyone had butterflies but no sadness. I can't lie though, my heart hurt a little. Time just moves so quickly and days like the first day of school reaffirm the reality that our kids grow entirely too fast! And it hurts to let them go. I was sadder than I thought I'd be about Brantlee going to K5. But anyway...

We have a 2nd grader and so far his year is going great! He likes his teacher and classmates. He got into the gifted program, Star Reach, and he is loving that so much. He is having to step it up a notch in terms of responsibility in the 2nd grade, but that's good for the boy.  He loves school, and he always has something funny to tell that happens each day. He's had a MUCH better start this year. So thankful for that!

Sister started Kindergarten and we are so pleased with how well that is going. Not that we thought B would have any trouble really. It's just that this is the first year she has to stay all day and take a nap (EEK!). But to our surprise she has adjusted with no real adjustment at all. Our B is a tough little cookie and always has been. I think she's doing great so far.  And so far her social skills haven't gotten her into any trouble, ha! I actually think she's pretty quiet and is a good class helper.

Some other new adventures have begun lately. Collin has started karate twice a week. He's only had 3 lessons so far, but we really think he's going to like it. We hope it's a good fit for him. And Sister started back with gymnastics. She moved up a class this year, but she is holding her own and loves it.  She has a permanent smile on her face the whole time she's out there.

Brantlee's Sunday School class had a mission project to make fruit bags and deliver them to shut ins and widows.  They sang the Books of the Bible songs and did so good visiting with everyone. They are such sweet little girls and we were so proud of their endurance on that afternoon. They earned a milkshake from Sonic that day too.

The RA's at church recently went on the annual camping trip. This year they had to design a pinewood derby car and race it.  Collin chose an Army hummer. Poppy was concerned about the aerodynamics of the design (ha!). And we had to remind him that it was all just for fun, of course. Would you know that car won 1st place in the race?! We were all shocked. Here he is with his trophy.

Sno cones in the sweltering heat!! I think this was just before Ty flipped backwards and smacked the concrete with his head.  Poor little guy. We do like to make our presence known in public.

Ty has thoroughly enjoyed his days with the big kids in school. He LOVES it when he's an only child. He's either with me or with Nana or Lolly when I'm working.

Ty had his 2 year check up last week. He weighed in at 30 lbs and he is 3 feet tall. He did really good at the visit. He only had a finger prick to get a blood sample, and he didn't even flinch.  That was basically NOTHING compared to bumps, bruises, and predicaments he encounters on a daily basis going wide open from daylight to dark. This boy... He is SO 2 years old, as Lolly says.

We braved the library one afternoon before school started. Really the only person interested in it is Collin... and he could stay there all day.

Well I think this catches us up with life here lately. We are so ready for fall and all that it brings. My favorite season... football, pumpkins, boots... I'm ready!!

The Caribe '14

We wrapped up summer with a trip to The Caribe with Lolly, Poppy and the whole gang. This was our first time to try this place out and I must say that it did NOT disappoint! We had the best time! Of course, we usually do with this bunch. Never a dull moment. And this was the best place for our kids and their ages. We had so much fun hopping from pool to pool and then to the slides for a while. But we couldn't go the beach without actually going to the beach. We are beach people to the core. And the water was so pretty and clear. I think these pictures tell the rest of the story.

We did get brave and go out to dinner one night. We ate at the Crab Trap.

And to our surprise our dear friends the Pierces were there the same time just a couple condos up!! We couldn't have planned that if we tried. Needless to say we had an even larger time than usual with more people to play with!

Brantlee had her 4th tooth pulled while poolside by her Lolly.  Because... why not?

Like a said, a large time was had by all. I think this was just before Ty dumped a red sno cone into the hot tub and turned it red for a bit. Oops!

One night we went to The Wharf and Lolly couldn't stand it and treated them to Build-A-Bear. I really think it was the highlight of the trip for them. And then we rode the Ferris wheel, which was NOT the highlight for this Mama or Aunt Casey. I think everyone else handled it fine though ;)

The Tooth Fairy left some cash and a little note for B.
This pretty much sums up Ty's idea of a vacation.

One night we stayed with tradition and had our family pictures made.  This year we were "the yellow people" as dad says.

It was a beautiful week and beautiful time with our family. So thankful!
